# Can I do remote online notarization (RON) with my regular commission?

No. RON — notarizing for a signer appearing by live audio-video — is an electronic notarial act under New York law, and it requires the electronic registration above. Note that New York doesn’t run two lanes: Executive Law §135-c and Part 182 define one capability, “electronic notarial acts,” and the remote appearance the market calls RON is simply that capability used with communication technology. Two rules to carry: the notary must be physically in New York when acting (the signer may be elsewhere in the U.S., or abroad for U.S.-connected matters), and every electronic certificate must state the person “appeared through use of communication technology.”
