# What is the $60 electronic-notary registration?

A separate, optional registration with the Secretary of State — $60, non-refundable, under 19 NYCRR §182.11(b) — that you must complete and have confirmed **before your first electronic notarial act**. Your regular commission authorizes traditional acts only; the electronic capability is its own registration with its own requirements: your technology description or vendor registration, an exemplar of your electronic signature, and your email on file. It has been the process since New York’s electronic-notarization rules took full effect in January 2023. It stacks on top of the commission pipeline — commission first, then this whenever you’re ready.
