# What is the certificate of completion : and what isn’t it?

It’s your record that you completed this course: all 28 lessons and the final exam. It’s the right thing to hand an employer who’s paying for or requiring prep. What it isn’t: a state credential, a license, a commission, or any kind of state certification — New York requires no course and certifies no course. Your qualification comes from the state exam and the Department of State’s commission process, not from us. The distinction matters, and we’d rather be clear than impressive.
