NY Notary Class Cost Comparison: Every Verified Price in One Table
Short answer: a New York notary prep class costs between $25 and $95, the dedicated New York courses cluster at $69 to $79, and one established provider doesn’t publish its price at all. Every price in the table below was verified on the provider’s own page in September 2026, except the one that publishes none, which is its own story.
Disclosure: our course is in the table, marked as ours. The prices, formats, and guarantee facts are the same for everyone: taken from each provider’s published pages, stamped “as of September 2026,” and linkable at the source.

A few rows need footnotes.
Notary Public 101 ($25). The verified price floor. The course page mentions no practice tests, and the published refund policy covers the pre-completion period only.
NNA ($35 promo, reg. $69). The cheapest option with a real question bank, from the national association. No guarantee, and the course sits inside a funnel toward supplies and insurance. Our NNA review covers the trade.
SUNY Suffolk ($75). The one college price we could verify: a single 3-hour evening continuing-education session. Other area colleges (Nassau CC, Molloy, Dutchess, Orange, CUNY schools) run similar notary prep classes, but we could not verify their current prices, so they are not in the table.
NYREI ($95). The highest published price in the field, and the only one that includes a live Manhattan classroom or livestream. It also includes the fewest practice questions of any paid option. Details in our NYREI review.
Notary Public Central (no published price). An operator since 1998 with a 200-question prep test and a pass-or-next-class-free guarantee, and no prices anywhere on its site. Registration runs by phone or through their Enrollware platform, where the price appears. It is a legitimate business choice, but it means you cannot comparison-shop them from the outside. If you’re considering them, call first. Our Notary Public Central review lists exactly what to ask.
What you get at each price band
$25 to $35: the budget band. At $25 you get online material access with no practice tests mentioned on the page. At $35 (NNA) the band gets credible: a real 120-question bank, flash cards, and a national organization behind it. What this band does not include anywhere: a guarantee, New York-only depth, or a large bank.
$69 to $77: the dedicated band. This is where the New York-only products live: banks of 222 to 253 questions, guarantees, and on-demand formats designed around the state’s current booklet. The incumbent association ($77) and our course ($69) both sit here. You are paying for depth and pass protection, not for live instruction.
$95: the live-instruction premium. NYREI’s price buys a live instructor in a Manhattan classroom or a scheduled livestream. It does not buy questions. One end-of-course practice exam is the entire published bank, fewer than any other paid option.
Not published: the call-first band. Notary Public Central’s program is competitive on paper with the dedicated band (200-Q prep test, guarantee, live classes since 1998), but the value question cannot be answered without picking up the phone.
The costs beyond the class
The class is not the whole budget. On top of any course fee:
- $15 exam fee, every sitting: paid on exam day by check, money order, MasterCard, or Visa; cash is not accepted (full exam-day logistics here)
- $60 application fee: paid only after you pass, when you apply for your commission
- Optional afterwards: a stamp, E&O insurance, and $60 if you later register for electronic notarization
So, for example, a $69 course plus one exam sitting plus the application comes to $144 before any supplies. The course is most of the budget, but not all of it.
Do you need a class at all?
No prep course is required to sit the New York notary exam. The exam’s question source is the Department of State’s free 22-page booklet, and we walk all of it section by section here. A course buys structure, drilling, and sometimes a guarantee. If you are disciplined, the booklet plus free practice (our free 20-question diagnostic, or NY Notary Hub’s free bank) may be enough on its own. If you want the bank and the pass protection, the dedicated band is where both live.
NY notary class cost: FAQ
How much does a NY notary class cost?
Between $25 and $95 as of September 2026. Dedicated New York courses with real question banks and guarantees cluster at $69 to $79. The budget floor is $25 to $35. The one established school that publishes no price (Notary Public Central) has to be called for a quote. Budget another $15 per exam sitting and $60 for the application.
What is the cheapest NY notary class?
The verified $25 floor is Notary Public 101’s online class, though its page mentions no practice tests. The cheapest option with a real practice bank is the NNA at $35 on promo. And the free lane, the state’s own booklet plus free practice tests, costs nothing at all.
Does a higher price mean a better class?
Not in this field. The $95 option publishes one practice exam and no guarantee. The $69 and $77 options both include guarantees and banks of 220+ questions. Judge by what the price includes, not by the number itself.
Why doesn’t Notary Public Central publish its prices?
They register students by phone and through the Enrollware registration platform, and the price appears during that process rather than on the website. It is a business choice. The practical consequence is that you should call before comparing them against anything in the table.
Do any NY notary courses include a guarantee?
Three verified as of September 2026: the NYS Notary Public Association at $77 (free repeat), Notary Public Central (pass or next class free), and our course at $69 pricing (pass guarantee).
Is a prep course required to become a New York notary?
No. New York requires passing the state exam, and the exam’s material source is DOS’s free booklet. Courses are optional structure, and no course is a substitute for the booklet itself.
Whichever band you shop, the first step is free: take our free NY notary practice test and see how much prep you actually need before you spend anything.
